Look out, there is a new burglar on the loose in Roseville!
From Sandy Louey at sacbee.com
Roseville police are looking for a man who likely was responsible for two interrupted burglaries Monday.
At 8:13 a.m., a resident in the 1800 block of Bottlebrush Circle heard scraping noises at her backyard window. She saw the window screen fall off her window and a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt standing outside, according to a news release from the Roseville Police Department.
She barricaded herself inside the home and used her cell phone to call for help. The man left without entering the home, police said.
The second incident was about an hour later and five miles away. At 9:25 a.m., a resident in the 2500 block of Tradewinds Drive heard a banging sound on the side of his home.
When he heard someone downstairs, he went down and found a man holding a crowbar, police said.
Police said the burglar ran out the front door. A witness saw the man get into the passenger's side of a silver compact sedan, which sped away toward Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard.
The person in the Tradewinds Drive incident was described as a clean-shaven African American, Latino or mixed-race man, 6 feet 1 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans with red markings.
The burglar in the Bottlebrush Circle incident was described only as a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, but police said they believe he is the same man from the Tradewinds Drive attempted break-in.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department's investigations unit at (916) 774-5070.
This blog is to help the residents of Cirby Side and Creekside Estates neighborhoods of Roseville keep abreast of crimes happening near and around their homes. This is also a forum to share crime information.

Roseville reports rash of vehicle burglaries
Roseville residents have been hit with a spate of vehicle burglaries in the past few weeks, including at least six Thursday night, police said.
Authorities are asking residents to remove electronic items like portable GPS navigation systems and other valuables from their vehicles. Police are also asking residents to park their vehicles inside locked garages at night if possible and to remove garage door openers from vehicles parked outside.
Most of the burglaries occurred at night in residential areas, but thieves have also hit the parking lots of hotels, fitness centers and golf courses during daytime and night time hours.
Police say the thieves will steal from unlocked vehicles when they can find them, but are frequently breaking windows to steal from inside the vehicle.
At least six vehicles parked in the Cirby Side and Cresthaven neighborhoods south of Cirby Way Thursday night had their windows smashed and property taken. The thieves were apparently targeting portable GPS navigation systems, even some that had been stashed out of sight in the vehicles.
Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity or persons immediately.

More residential break-ins occuring in our neighborhood
In the middle of the night, Christmas Eve, a home on Kensington Drive was burglarized. The front door was kicked in and many items were stolen. Luckily, another person in the neighborhood saw this and called the police. No one was arrested.
To protect the homeowner, I won't post the address or location of the home. We're seeing more and more violent crime in Roseville, including residential break-ins. I've been trying to get the Roseville Police Department and the Roseville City Council to change their priorities. Instead of chasing people who drive 3 MPH over the speed limit, they need to start patrolling our neighborhoods. Crime is on the rise and the Roseville Police Department and Roseville City Council is focusing on writing traffic tickets to increase revenues. If you disagree with this and agree that stopping crime is a priority, please contact these people and let you voices be heard, otherwise the bad guys will end up winning! You can also contact me if you need more specific information.

Vandalism occurred on Kensington Drive
There was a lawn job that occurred at 1046 Kensington Drive either last night or early this morning. The corner lawn of this home was vandalized by a vehicle knocking over a mail box. I saw a Chevy Suburban that wrecked into a utility box at the corner of Kensington and Sunrise. The occupants looked to be teens who lost their back axel. I don’t know if these are related, but they certainly could be. If you witnessed anything, either let the residents of 1046 Kensington know or call the Roseville Police.

Suspect arrested in Citrus Heights home invasion
From Sandy Louey and David Richie: Sac Bee
Authorities arrested a 39-year-old man Monday afternoon in connection with last week's home invasion robbery in Citrus Heights.
Sean James Gwiazdowski was arrested on suspicion of robbery, burglary, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and vehicle theft in connection with Wednesday's incident, said Sgt. Josh McVay of the Citrus Heights Police Department.
A woman was held at knifepoint Wednesday morning after she returned home to her place in the 6500 block of Mariposa Avenue and interrupted a burglary. The woman struggled with Gwiazdowski, who allegedly held her against her will for about 30 minutes before he fled in her car with stolen property, police said.
McVay said teamwork with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department helped lead to the arrest.
Gwiazdowski was tracked to a home in the 6300 block of Channing Way in North Highlands where he was arrested at 3:31 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Tim Curran, a spokesman for the sheriff's department.
Gwiazdowski was spotted driving the vehicle that he allegedly stole from the woman's home. Investigators were able to identify him and make the arrest.
The woman also identified him through a photo lineup, police said.

Rocklin homeowner's tip leads to burglary suspect's arrest
From David Richie: Sac Bee
A homeowner's excellent description of a burglary suspect and his vehicle helped Rocklin police make an arrest earlier today.
Rocklin police have investigated at least six burglaries during the past few days where a burglar or burglars got away with numerous items, including jewelry, firearms and a computer, officials said. Burglaries have occurred in the Stanford Ranch area and off Midas Avenue.
During a burglary Wednesday a neighbor spotted the suspicious activity and provided police with the descriptions.
Earlier today, a city animal control officer spotted that vehicle and called the police. They stopped the black Ford 150 with distinctive markings near Pacific Street and Sunset Avenue.
Officers searched the vehicle, recovering property stolen in one of the recent burglaries. They arrested Shaun Alan Sterner, 23, of Lincoln on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.
"The neighbor who contacted us after becoming suspicious of the male subject was instrumental in the arrest," said Lt. Ron Milka, Rocklin police spokesman.

Roseville cops notify residents of violent sex offender
By David Richie

Roseville police are notifying residents about the presence of convicted murderer and sex offender Michael Charles Etchison, who moved to the city last week.
On Tuesday morning, police distributed fliers around his new neighborhood with photographs of Etchison and the car he drives. They also released fliers to the news media.
Etchison, 53, is the subject of a community meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the Roseville Sports Center, 1545 Pleasant Grove Blvd.
"This is the first time we have done a communitywide notification," said Dee Dee Gunther, Police Department spokeswoman. "His offenses were violent, and unlike the vast majority of sex offenders, he targeted strangers."
The department's Megan's Law public notification indicates that during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Etchison sexually assaulted four young women in San Mateo County. He attacked one woman at knifepoint after offering her a ride home. He assaulted three other women in the restroom at a drive-in movie theater, officials said.
Etchison's juvenile record includes the sexual assault and murder of a young woman in 1972, when he was 17.
Elaine Tipton, supervising deputy district attorney for the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office confirmed that Etchison served time in the California Youth Authority for murder. As an adult, he was convicted of sexual assault in 1979 and again in 1981 while on parole. He was sentenced to 26 years in prison, Tipton said.
"In December 2006, we aggressively sought a finding that he remained a sexually violent predator," Tipton said.
But a judge ordered Etchison released from custody.
Etchison answered the door at his house on Marblethorpe Drive, off Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard, early Tuesday afternoon. A copy of the Roseville police flier was still under the welcome mat on the front porch. "I think it's best that I wait until things die down a little," Etchison said when asked if he wanted to talk to a Bee reporter. "I really don't have any comment."
Etchison has served his entire prison sentence. He is not on parole or probation, and he is not wanted for any offense, Roseville officials said.
Megan's Law requires that Etchison notify local police when he moves into a community. "He did everything he is supposed to do," Gunther said.
The law also allows local officials to alert the community about the man's presence. "Our intention is not to create fear. Megan's Law is a notification law. We also are not going to tolerate any harassment of him," Gunther said.
There are 147 registered sex offenders living in Roseville. Not all are listed on the Megan's Law Web site because they have successfully petitioned to get off that list, or local police do not consider them a high risk, Gunther said.

Suspects arrested in car thefts and stolen stereos in Roseville
From the Press Tribune Sept 17, 2008
A citizen's tip and a quick response by Roseville Police officers led to the arrest of two suspects Tuesday morning for the recovery of two stolen vehicles and two stolen car stereos.
At 4:27 a.m. Sept. 16, a resident of the 1400 block of Lockhart Way reported that he had just interrupted two males breaking into a neighbor's car. The thieves fled the area in a white sedan, similar to a Honda. A responding Roseville police officer spotted a white Honda sedan driving out of the neighborhood. The officer stopped the sedan and its two male occupants, and saw that the car's ignition had been punched. Inside the vehicle were two car stereos, wiring, and burglar's tools. The car stereos were matched to burglarized vehicles on Lockhart Way and Oakborough Avenue in Roseville.
The Honda sedan used by the suspects was registered to a Sacramento woman. At RPD's request, a Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy contacted the registered owner, and confirmed that her Honda sedan had been stolen sometime in the night. The deputy spotted another sedan, a Toyota Camry, parked in a haphazard way near the woman's residence. The Camry had just been reported stolen from Atwell Street in Roseville.
It appeared that the thieves stole the Toyota Camry from Atwell Street in Roseville, drove it to Sacramento and dumped it, and then stole the Honda sedan. They are suspected of returning to Roseville in the stolen Honda, and committing at least two vehicle burglaries.
Officers arrested Souyee Lao, 20, of Sacramento and Jesse Tang Xiong, 19, of Elverta on suspicion of auto theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, vandalism and possession of burglar's tools. Both are currently in custody in the Placer County Jail on $20,000 bail.
