Vehicle owners appeared to give burglars free reign in Roseville last weekend.
Fourteen vehicles or garages left unlocked the night of April 11 allowed thieves to take purses, wallets, checkbooks, credit cards, loose change, sunglasses, clothing, cell phones, iPods and a laptop computer, police reported.
A 15th vehicle, which had been locked, was broken into by smashing the window, said police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther, who expressed dismay that so many vehicles had been left unlocked.
"We must stop giving concierge service to thieves," she said.
Gunther urged residents to park their vehicles inside a locked garage or to lock any vehicle left outside. She also cautioned residents not to leave valuable items, including garage door openers, inside the vehicles.
The thieves hit seven vehicles in the Quail Glen neighborhood, Gunther said. Two of the vehicles were parked inside garages, but the owners had left their garages or side doors unlocked, allowing the burglars to walk in, she said.
Six vehicle burglaries occurred the same night on Halley Glen Drive in the Highland Reserve neighborhood and the two other burglaries occurred on Jennifer Circle in the Diamond Oaks section of town, she said.

On Sunday, April 6, a Roseville police officer arrested a man suspected of committing several burglaries in the east Roseville area since last fall.
Sunday morning, Roseville Police Officer Marzolf knocked on doors in the Smith Lane and Conroy Lane, off Sunrise Avenue, looking for information about a man on probation named Jeremiah Mallory. Officer Marzolf was aware of several recent thefts from vehicles in the east Roseville area, and that a man resembling Mallory frequented the area and had been seen in the area of at least one of the crimes.
At approximately 10 a.m., Officer Marzolf spotted Mallory riding a bicycle on Sunrise Avenue near Conroy Lane, and arrested him on a Sacramento County warrant. Officer Marzolf and other officers then searched a nearby apartment where Mallory had been staying, and discovered a large cache of suspected stolen property, including numerous cell phones, GPS navigation units, handheld electronic gaming devices, music players, and other items.
Jeremiah Joseph Mallory, 34, of Weed, CA, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, violation of probation, possession of a switchblade knife, and a Sacramento County warrant for DUI. Mallory is being held in the Placer County Jail in lieu of $75,500 bail.
Investigation staff are cataloging the recovered items and combing through crime reports, matching stolen property to victims. So far, they have matched the property to at least seven thefts from vehicles or garage burglaries in east Roseville.
Investigations lieutenant Moore said, "We know that burglary and theft victims will be anxious to find out if we've recovered their stolen property. I encourage them to be patient and wait for our staff to call them. So far, the property we have matched was all stolen from east Roseville, not far from where this suspect was staying. Many of the recovered items, like cell phones, are fairly easy for our staff to trace to their owners."

Another vehicle break-in on Reuter Ranch Road
It was just reported to me that there was another vehicle break-in on Reuter Ranch Road. A truck had its drivers side window broken and various things were stolen out of the truck. It happened sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Please keep a look out and notify the Police and myself when these incidents happen. I'm still seeing the criminal activity increasing in our neighborhood.

Another crime in Creekside, but this time with a happy ending

Late last night or early this morning, a truck drove up San Simeon, just past Santa Cruz Court and parked. Another neighbor was up and heard the truck stop. From his vantage point was able to look out the window to what they were doing. When the two men left the truck, carrying something (probably tools to break into cars) and he called 911. Within minutes Roseville Police were here and both men were apprehended.
This is excellent news folks! This also shows you it pays to pay attention and to CALL 911 when you hear or see something suspicious.

Another vehicle breakin off San Simeon
An alert neighbor gave me some details on yet another vehicle break in. It occured on Santa Cruz Court to a truck. Some minor things were taken but there is a lot of criminal activity going on in the Creekside area on San Simeon Drive.
People should keep their vehicles in a locked garage otherwise they are easy targets. Right now vehicles left outside are being targeted, especially with Toyota pick ups. Thieves are stealing catalytic converters because they are very expensive to replace and they can easily sell them on the black market. Everyday there is a similar incident reported in Roseville.
Please be alert and let me know if you know of any further problems in this area. I'll keep your info anonomous if you like.

Suspect seen in Creekside Estates on Jan 28
A white male with a long ponytail was seen near Santa Cruz Court and San Simeon Drive in the early morning of January 28th. He was wearing a burgundy overcoat and back pack and was seen looking into homes, vehicle windows and pulling on car door handles. An alert neighbor saw him and wisely called 911. It doesn't look like the police caught anyone at this point. Anyone with more knowledge of this incident or has information on this suspect is urged to contact this blogger or call the Roseville Police Department at 771.0100. Please keep me updated on any crimes or attepted crimes in our neiborhood. It's the only way to keep ourselves and our property safe.

Home invasion robbery reported in Roseville
A Roseville woman reported that two masked individuals, one carrying a handgun, took money and jewelry from her over the weekend in a home invasion robbery, police said.
Officers interviewed neighbors and gardeners working outside in the area, but no one saw anyone suspicious leaving the area at the time or heard anything unusual, police said.
The woman said she was in her home on Bronte Court at 11:45 a.m. Saturday when a man and a woman wearing face masks suddenly appeared at the sliding glass door in the back yard and demanded entrance, said Dee Dee Gunther, police spokeswoman.
The robbers were described as Asian and in their 20s. The man wore a white T-shirt, jeans and gloves and the woman had on a black sweater, blue jeans and gloves, Gunther said.

Roseville Door-to-door salesman arrested in burglary

A man selling magazines door-to-door in Roseville was arrested Monday for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing video game equipment, coins and jewelry, police reported.
The 20-year-old man was part of a legitimate campaign in which young men sell magazines in residential neighborhoods, but he apparently gave in to temptation when he came upon on house in which no one was home, said police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther.
The incident was reported at 5:25 p.m. in the 1900 block of Sidesaddle Way after a woman returned home and found the house burglarized, Gunther said. The thief had broken a rear window to gain entry, she said.
A next-door neighbor provided police with a description of a magazine solicitor who had come to her door earlier, Gunther said.
Police learned that several door-to-door solicitors with legal business licenses were in the area and that a van would be picking them up shortly, Gunther said.
When officers located the van, they found that one of the men inside matched the description given by the burglary victim's neighbor, she said. The man also had the stolen items in his possession, she said.
Arrested on suspicion of burglary and providing a false name was Jonothan Pelaske, 20, who gave no permanent address. He also was wanted on two warrants by the Redding Police Department for failure to appear in court, Gunther said.
Pelaske is being held in the Placer County jail on $40,000 bail, she said.

Roseville burglar strikes woman with car during escape

Roseville police are seeking a man who fled a burglary Wednesday by striking one of his victims with his car.
Police said the female victim was tossed onto the hood of the car and rolled onto the ground. She was bruised but declined medical attention, police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.
The fleeing burglar may have been scalded in the face by hot coffee thrown at him by the woman's husband, Gunther said.
The incident occurred at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday in the Raley's parking lot at 1915 Douglas Blvd.
A Rocklin couple came out of the store and saw a man sitting in their vehicle, the driver-side window having been smashed, Gunther said. They yelled and the suspect ran, taking the couple's portable GPS unit and jumping into his own vehicle, she said.
The husband, carrying a cup of coffee, threw the hot liquid through the car's open window, Gunther said. The suspect then struck the man's wife with the car as he fled, she said.
The suspect was described as a Latino with a shaved head. He is in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. He wore a white T-shirt. His vehicle was a white Honda Accord four-door, possibly an early 1990s model, Gunther said.
Citizens are urged to look for someone who may have scald marks from the coffee thrown in his face, she said.
