This is a prime opportunity for criminals to case the neighborhood and make their moves. Most of us are out at parties or not thinking about a break in. Please leave a few lights on and pick up your newspapers in your driveways so no one assumes you are not at home. Let's hope nothing happens tonight. I've asked our neighborhood police officer to patrol our homes between now and the early hours of January and watch out for this guy who is casing our homes.

Where is the Roseville Police Department?

Other week of residential burglariesand another week of RPD missing in action. Do they not think crime against our homes is important? Why are residential break ins happening at record levels and yet there is no police presence? When was the last time you talked to your neighborhood officer? When was the last time you actually saw a police officer doing a proactive patrol in your neighborhood?

Here is the last home break-ins in and around your neighborhood for the week ending Dec 27th:

800 block of Cordwell Circle, Roseville, burglary. A 42-inch plasma television valued at $2,000 was stolen from a residence between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Dec. 17. The intruder also took two 6-foot fence boards and $40 worth of coins.

1100 block of Dartmouth Avenue, Roseville, burglary. A man broke two windows in an attempt to burglarize a residence at noon Dec. 19 before being chased away by a neighbor.

700 block of Gibson Drive, Roseville, burglary. A resident arrived home at 1:15 p.m. Dec. 18 to discover someone inside her home. The intruder fled, taking some change that was on a counter.

800 block of Sandmont Drive, Roseville, theft. An animated deer valued at $69 was stolen from a holiday display between 10:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 6:30 a.m. Dec. 10.

When are the officials within the Roseville Police Department going to take residential break-ins seriously? Are they waiting for someone to get seriously hurt, or worse, before they take action?

An Open Letter sent to RPD

My home was burglarized on Thanksgiving night. There are also neighbors of mine who have been recently burglarized. Officer Baumann was the responding officer to my case and he did an excellent job.

I caught a guy casing the neighborhood the night of your DUI Checkpoint last Friday (12/14). When I called RPD, it took at least 30 minutes for a response even though the checkpoint is right behind my home. The guy I caught has been seen by other neighbors and he doesn't belong here. It's becoming a pattern of person(s) coming from Citrus Heights into our neighborhood to break into homes.

I'd really like to talk to the neighborhood patrol officer(s) in my neighborhood and the patrol sergeant about this and other incidents. In light of these events I'd also like to request extra patrols in this neighborhood in the evenings and early mornings (10PM-3AM) through January 2.

Got a miter saw that's gone missing? A drill that's disappeared?
It may be among an array of hand and power tools at the Roseville Police Department, which were seized over the weekend after being found for sale at a local swap meet.
A Gold River man was at Denio's Farmer's Market and Auction on Sunday afternoon when he spotted his circular saw for sale, which along with several other tools had been stolen from his vehicle about three weeks ago, police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.
The man, who had been frequenting the popular swap meet for weeks to try and find his tools, then called Roseville police and pointed out the vendor who was selling the alleged stolen property.

Officers seized 83 other items from the vendor, Jose Pedro Mendoza, 45, of Stockton. The items, which included hand and power tools and a few Motocross items, are believed to have been stolen from throughout northern California, Gunther said.
Theft victims are invited to come to the police department from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday to see if their stolen items are included among the seized property. Victims must bring a copy of their police report and detailed descriptions of their stolen goods, including model, brand, condition, color and any identifying marks.

The police department is located at 1051 Junction Blvd. They also are encouraged to fax their police reports and descriptions of stolen items to the police department as soon as possible, to expedite the process and possibly avoid an unnecessary trip, Gunther said.

Neighborhood BOL - December 14

Be on the lookout for a suspicious person or persons in your neighborhood. There have been several residential burglaries in the area of Crown Point and Creekside Estates, part of the Cirby Side Neighborhood of Roseville.

On Friday December 14th at 10:45PM there was a suspicious person walking around the neighborhood. He is a white male, late 40s, scruffy appearance, hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap and baggy denim jeans. The suspect was seen walking up and down Newport Way looking into back yards and talking on a cell phone. He was in the area for at least 30 minutes. When approached, he ran back to his SUV and left the area. He is driving a bronze/gold Ford Explorer SUV with California license plate number 4CUP363. Neighbors have also seen this guy in a dark blue Ford Focus station wagon with CA license plate 4YLV492.

This suspect has been seen in the area on at least 2 previous occasions. He has been seen on foot on the paved bike trail along Sunrise Blvd and walking through other past of your neighborhood. He also walks the neighborhood posing as a “walker” but this is only a cover. He is casing the neighborhood looking to find open windows, doors, garages and homes that look empty. He does not live in this area and he does not belong here. If you see him or his vehicle, please call 911 from your home phone or call 916.786.6444 from your cell phone.

There have been several residential break-ins in the past few months in this area so please be aware and keep an eye out for this suspect or anyone else who looks suspicious.

Residential home break-in occured on Thanksgiving night

On Thursday, November 22nd, between 1PM and 8PM, a suspect broke into a home on Newport Way. Several thousand dollars worth of electronics, cash and other items were stolen. The suspect tried to get into the home by a ground level window. Suspect broke the screens off two windows and was able to pry open one window and gain entry into the resident. After the suspect stole these items he left the home through the front door. The suspect has not been caught.

Please make sure all exterior doors and windows are shut and locked at all times. Set up outside motion detectors which turns lights on automatically. Also, set up timers inside your homes that will turns lights on while you are away or asleep. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to the police. There has been a lot of criminal activity in this neighborhood in recent months. Everything thing from cars being stolen on the street to criminals breaking into residences. The Roseville Police Department (RPD) has been slow to act, so it is up to you and your friends, family and neighbors to be vigilant and keep each other up to date on what's going on in your neighborhood. We need to keep each other informed and safe.

Please do not confront anyone who looks suspicious. If you do see someone acting suspicious or seems to not belong to the area, please contact the Roseville Police at 774.5000 or call 911 if it is serious. Get a detailed description of the person or persons, and a license plate number if they have a vehicle, and let the police know what you saw.
